Loyal Dog Guards Empty House Where His Family Left Him Weeks Ago

• Salvatore the dog refused to leave the house and protectively watched over the yard where his family abandoned him.
• A realtor shooed him away from the property which made him turn to a rescue worker who has been coaxing him to be rescued.
• At the rescue house, his loving and sweet personality emerged which made staff members hope he would get adopted soon.

When a dog is abandoned, it struggles to understand why.  We all have heard stories of dogs not leaving the place where they have been left, hoping that their owners would return for them there. 

In Salvatore’s case, it is the yard in the foreclosed house where her former family used to live.  Not one of the family came to the house since but Salvatore was there day in, day out.

He stayed there for weeks and local dog rescuer Gloria Cabal just knew that she had to help him.

She tried convincing him with treats, food and water but Salvatore would not budge.

But when another realtor came and made him leave to a park near the house, that is when he knew his vigil was futile.  His family was not coming back for him.  That is when he allowed Cabal to take him to the Everglades Angels Dog Rescue.

At the rescue center, his warm nature endeared him to the employees.  They were heartbroken that a dog so friendly and loyal would be abandoned.

Everglades Angels staff member Denise Guevara said, “He is a volunteer favorite. From what we were able to gather, he grew up with a family.”

It is no wonder why Salvatore always begs for pets and jumps on the couch so he could reach people’s laps to cuddle. Guevara said that Salvatore is a sweetheart. And he is up for adoption.

Staff members of the Everglades Angels are hoping that Salvatore will find his forever home soon.  One that would not abandon him but reward him for his loyalty with a lifetime of love.
