Man Adopts Blinded Kitten Left Outside his Garage [Video]

• Joshua Hiebert spotted a tiny kitten huddled alone outside his garage one day and had to take him in.
• When he offered the kitten water, he realized that he was blind.
• While the kitten is still almost entirely blind, he can now perceive light changes after being taken to the vet.

When Joshua Hiebert spotted a tiny kitten outside his garage back in June, he knew he had to take him in.

“He was in the sun on the concrete, and it was, like, 90 degrees outside,” he recalled.

He checked the area for signs of the kitten’s mom or owner, but no one was around.

He and his husband, Jose Tortolero, have fed the neighborhood’s feral cats before, so they thought that the mom may have left her kitten to their capable hands.

Joshua opened the garage door for the kitten, but the tiny creature was very weak and almost couldn’t keep his head up.

As the kitten stumbled inside, the couple gave him a bowl of water.

It was then that they noticed the kitten dipped his paw in and tapped the water’s surface before he drank. They realized that he had to test the water’s depth because he was blind.

The couple stocked up on pet supplies so they can care for the kitten, whom they named Whiskers.

After getting a good meal and sleeping comfortably, Whiskers was renewed.

Joshua and Jose brought him to the vet for a checkup. There, they got antibiotics, eye drops, and eye lubricants.

While Whisker is still almost entirely blind, the treatment seemed to help improve his vision. Now he can see changes in light and movements.

Hopefully, his vision could still improve with time and care. His dads are doing everything they can to help him.

Six months since he was found, Whiskers is now an independent and energetic kitten who loves playing with his dads and two dog siblings.

“He’s the sweetest. He’ll never put his claws into you when he’s playing. He’s very gentle,” Joshua said. “He gets excited every time he’s done eating. He gets the zoomies and runs around the house.”

Whiskers may still have some health issues, but he’s perfectly happy in his new home.

Joshua and Jose have fallen in love with him and definitely count him as part of their family.
