Meet Mo, a rescue cat whose peculiar sleeping antics have taken the internet by storm. Mo, short for Morgan Freeman, has been charming the online community with his endearing, albeit unusual, sleeping faces. The videos of Mo’s slumbering escapades have been shared by his owner on TikTok, under the handle @morganfreemanthecat.

Mo’s owner, who prefers to stay anonymous, adopted him when he was about a year old. From the start, Mo’s sleeping positions were anything but ordinary. “At first I was extremely concerned and took him to two separate vets to make sure it was nothing more serious, and they both said he just has VERY vivid dreams or nightmares,” the owner shared with Newsweek.

Mo’s sleeping routine includes intense twitching and eye flickering, which has been affectionately termed as “ugly” sleeping by his owner. “Mo loves to cuddle and often falls asleep with his head propped up in odd ways,” his owner explained. “Sometimes he’ll make the silliest faces or shake his head, which is how that first video went viral.”

Cats are known for their love of sleep, snoozing for an average of 15 out of 24 hours a day. However, the time they spend in deep sleep is significantly less, usually about 25 percent of their total sleep time. Cats often sleep with their heads upright or even sitting up, remaining alert to potential threats due to their unique sleep-wake cycle.

“I always knew Mo was special, but my friends and family were starting to lose interest in my constant stream of cat videos,” Mo’s owner confessed. “I wanted to prove a point and find a new audience who would appreciate him as much as I do.”

And appreciate him they did. With over 50,000 followers and several videos with millions of views, Mo’s “ugly” sleeping has won the hearts of the internet. One commenter on the viral video even joked, “Call an exorcist.”

“The love and support we’ve received have been incredible. I’m grateful that others see in Mo what I do—pure joy and unconditional love,” his owner expressed.
